UL 2085 Fireguard® Tanks for Protected Fuel Storage
UL 2085 Fireguard® tanks combine a steel primary tank, integral secondary containment, and lightweight fire-resistant insulation in one factory-built system. As a result, these protected above ground storage tanks provide enhanced fire, impact, and environmental protection for demanding fuel storage applications.
Whether your project supports fleet fueling, emergency generators, municipalities, industrial facilities, airports, or government operations, these protected fuel storage tanks provide dependable storage for diesel, gasoline, biodiesel, aviation fuels, waste oil, and many other compatible liquids.

What Are UL 2085 Fireguard® Tanks?
UL 2085 Fireguard® tanks are protected above ground storage tanks designed for applications that require a higher level of fire protection than a standard above ground storage tank. They combine a steel primary tank, integral secondary containment, and lightweight fire-resistant insulation into one factory-built system.
Unlike a standard UL 142 tank, a UL 2085 Fireguard® tank undergoes additional testing for fire exposure, impact resistance, ballistic resistance, thermal shock, and hose-stream performance. Consequently, many engineers, architects, insurance providers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) specify these protected above ground storage tanks for projects where additional fire protection is required.
Clark Welding Tanks offers UL 2085 Fireguard® tanks in capacities from 150 to 30,000 gallons, including single and multiple-compartment configurations. Furthermore, these tanks are available for diesel fuel, gasoline, biodiesel, aviation fuels, waste oil, chemicals, and many other compatible liquids.
If your project does not require a protected tank, a UL 142 Tank or STI Flameshield® Tank may be a more cost-effective solution. For more information, compare the differences in our UL 2085 vs. UL 142 guide or explore the official UL 142, UL 2080 & UL 2085 Compliance information.
IS A UL 2085 FIREGUARD® TANK RIGHT FOR YOUR PROJECT?
UL 2085 Fireguard® tanks are designed for projects that require enhanced fire protection, integral secondary containment, and dependable long-term performance. Whether you’re installing a new fuel system or replacing an existing tank, these protected fuel storage tanks provide a practical solution for many commercial, industrial, municipal, and government applications.
Enhanced Fire
Protection
UL 2085 Fireguard® tanks include lightweight fire-resistant insulation between the primary and outer steel tanks. As a result, they provide increased protection during an external fire while helping reduce heat transfer to the stored product.
Integral Secondary Containment
Every UL 2085 Fireguard® tank includes built-in secondary containment as part of the protected tank assembly. Consequently, the outer steel tank helps contain the contents of the primary tank if a leak occurs while providing an additional layer of environmental protection.
Impact & Ballistic Resistance
In addition to fire resistance, UL 2085 Fireguard® tanks are tested for impact and ballistic resistance as part of the UL 2085 listing. Therefore, they’re often selected for demanding installations where additional physical protection is important.
Factory-Built Protected System
Unlike field-built containment systems, UL 2085 Fireguard® tanks arrive as complete factory-built units. Furthermore, they can be equipped with pumps, meters, gauges, monitoring equipment, ladders, platforms, and many other options to match your project’s requirements.

Plan Your UL 2085 Fireguard® Tank
Every installation is different. Before requesting a quote, think about how the tank will be used, where it will be installed, and whether your project requires a protected tank. In addition, consider your future storage needs, available space, and equipment requirements before making your final decision. Then, our team will help you configure the right UL 2085 Fireguard® tank for your application.
✓ What product will you store?
Diesel fuel, gasoline, biodiesel, aviation fuels, waste oil, chemicals, and other compatible liquids may require different tank options, coatings, fittings, or equipment.
✓ How much storage capacity do you need?
Estimate your current fuel usage, delivery schedule, and future growth to help determine the right tank size.
✓ Will local codes require a protected tank?
Fire marshals, engineers, insurance providers, and the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) may require a UL 2085 protected tank based on your project and installation location.
✓ How will the tank be used?
Whether you’re storing fuel for fleet vehicles, emergency generators, industrial equipment, or municipal operations, we’ll help configure the right equipment package for your application.
✓ What equipment will you need?
Consider pumps, meters, filters, hose reels, gauges, overfill prevention equipment, monitoring systems, and other accessories before finalizing your design.
✓ Where will the tank be installed?
