The UL 142 Standard
The UL 142 standard is a guideline for manufacturing single wall tanks and double wall tanks to ensure safety for their users. Additionally, it covers vertical storage tanks. Furthermore, the Underwriters Laboratories (UL), which is an accredited product safety standards developer, writes and updates the standard. Moreover, a label on the tank with a UL mark on a product shows the manufacturer’s UL certification, demonstrating the manufacturer’s loyalty to product quality and safety. In addition, the label proves their overall industry experience. Lastly, the controlling authority, i.e., the fire marshal, may require UL certified tanks in the tank owner’s area.

Vertical Tanks VS Horizontal
Vertical storage tanks are preferred for space-efficient storage due to their smaller footprint and potential space savings. However, larger vertical tanks can be more expensive due to the need for a crane and time for installation and positioning.
Horizontal tanks are easier to work with due to their smaller height. Horizontals are generally recommended for situations where space is not a concern. However, vertical storage tanks may be more suitable for larger storage tanks.
Single Wall VS Double Wall Tanks
UL 142 double wall vertical storage tanks are a common solution for EPA and SPCC secondary containment requirements. Furthermore, double wall tanks are a simple all-in-one unit with a secondary outer tank. However, with single wall vertical tanks, a separate containment may be needed for fuel products and chemicals.
