UL 142 Horizontal
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is an accredited developer of product safety standards, including UL 142 for single and double wall tanks. A UL mark on a tank indicates the manufacturer’s certification, industry experience, and loyalty to quality and safety. Generally, a fire marshal may require a UL certified tank in the owner’s area.
UL 142 Double Wall Tanks
UL 142 double wall tanks are a common solution for EPA and SPCC secondary containment requirements. Dual wall tanks are tightly wrapped within a secondary tank. Therefore, they are a simple all-in-one unit.
Single Wall Tanks
Single wall tanks, without secondary containment, can be used for fuel and chemical storage in open-top boxes or concrete dike structures. Our Cleanworld 110% capacity self-contained tank offers cost-efficiency and easier management as opposed to a dike structure.
Single wall tanks may be sufficient for water storage, requiring no double wall or secondary containment tanks.
Otherwise, when a 110% capacity secondary containment is not needed, traditional dual wall tanks are the best option.
Single Wall VS Double Wall
Tank owners typically prefer dual wall tanks due to EPA and SPCC requirements. Single wall tanks are less expensive but come with added costs of ownership, installation, and relocation. They may also require cleanup when placed in open-top steel containment boxes or dike enclosures.
UL 142 double wall tanks are complete units, requiring no separate dike and easy relocation. They don’t need constant disposal of contaminated rainwater. The costs of installing and owning dual wall tanks outweigh the added costs of single wall tanks, so users should consider these costs when choosing the tank.
Tank Applications
Product Storage
Clark Welding UL 142 tanks are good for many products, i.e. gasoline, diesel, engine oil, antifreeze, waste oil, and biodiesel. In addition, we manufacture storage tanks for aviation fuel, chemicals, water storage, and more.
Sizes
185 gallons to 30,000 gallons.
Material
Mild carbon or stainless steel. Customers who need stainless steel may consider a mild carbon steel with an internal liner as a lower-cost option.
Coatings
Exterior zinc red oxide primer. Six top coat color options.
Compartments
Available in multiple compartments. Store more than one fuel or oil in the same tank. Double bulkhead dividers provide added protection against the products ever mixing. Great for areas where there are space restrictions.
