Flameshield
UL 142 Flameshield labeled tanks are above ground storage tanks with a tight wrap double wall design. The design features built-in secondary containment and the capability to monitor the interstitial space for leak detection.
Flameshield Labeled Tanks
Flameshield tanks are designed by the Steel Tank Institute (STI). They meet the UL142 standard. In addition to being UL Certified, they hold the Steel Tank Institute Flameshield label. Basically, the label indicates that they can pass a 2‐hour 2,000° fire test.
UL 142
The UL 142 Standard for Steel Aboveground Tanks for Flammable and Combustible Liquids is one common standard for the tank industry. UL standards guide manufacturers on how to construct products to ensure safety for their users.
When is Flameshield Required?
Because a fire marshal may request a particular tank design in permitting, the necessary tank will depend on the NFPA code and several other factors, i.e., the distance of the tank’s location from the property line, public way, and building. Therefore, the NFPA code and other criteria may prompt the fire marshal to request “fire resistant” or Flameshield tanks. Comparatively, in cases where the fire marshal does not require the Flameshield label, our UL 142 double wall storage tanks would be a more cost-efficient option.
Features
Flameshield labeled tanks are available in single and multiple-compartment systems, ranging from 150 to 30,000 gallons, and are constructed from mild carbon steel or stainless steel.
They are suitable for storing various products, including gasoline, diesel fuels, antifreeze, oils, lubricants, waste oil, biodiesel, chemicals, and water. Interior coatings are available for additional corrosion resistance.
Customers can select from safety options like stairs and ladders, spill prevention options, dispensing packages, pre-mounted pumps, and plumbing before shipment.
